 ORDINAL NUMBERS  IN ENGLISH : 1–20

Los números ordinales indican el orden o la posición de algo.

EXAMPLE

• 1st = primero
• 2nd = segundo
• 3rd = tercero
• 4th = cuarto

En español usamos palabras como primero, segundo, tercero, cuarto.... En inglés

 se usan principalmente para hablar de posiciones, fechas, pisos y orden.

El sonido th de third, fourth, fifth, etc., no existe exactamente en español.

LOS TRES PRIMEROS SON ESPECIALES

Los ordinales del 1 al 3 son diferentes y conviene memorizarlos:

• one → first → 1st
• 
  
• two → second → 2nd
• 
  
• three → third → 3rd

A partir de 4, normalmente aparece la terminación -th:

• four → fourth
• six → sixth
• seven → seventh
• ten → tenth

CÓMO SE USAN EN ORACIONES?

Los ordinales suelen aparecer con the cuando hablamos de una posición

 específica.

• I am the first student. → Soy el primer estudiante.
• She is the second person. → Ella es la segunda persona.
• He finished third. → Él terminó tercero.
• This is the fourth lesson. → Esta es la cuarta lección.
• Today is the twentieth day. → Hoy es el vigésimo día.

TAMBIÉN SE USAN PARA LAS FECHAS

EXAMPLE:

March 1st → March first June 5th → June fifth October 20th → 

October twentieth

En inglés, al hablar de una fecha, normalmente se pronuncia el ordinal:

July 4th → July fourth
